Bhubaneswar, Jul 29:

Overloaded trash bins and a large amount of garbage spread around, flies buzzing around and cows feeding off them is not an uncommon sight in Odisha capital. We could blame the municipal corporation, the local corporator, our next door neighbor or the dustbins themselves. But what makes us, the citizens to accept our own mistakes without shying away from our responsibility to keep our neighborhood clean?

What happened to "cleanliness is next to godliness"? A clean country begins with a responsible society. Despite several awareness campaigns and cleanliness drives, the crux of the matter is the responsibility of keeping our surrounding lies with the people. Unless the locals accept their responsibilities and create a positive circle of influence around for others to be inspired, such settings will dominate the scenery of smart city.Without indulging in a blame game and passing on the responsibility on to to the government that we voted for, its time we ask ourselves, "Are we doing enough?"
