Bhubaneswar: Unidentified miscreants allegedly looted gold ornaments from a jewellery store in Odisha’s Sambalpur city after they opened fire at its owner and employees today.

Sujit Sonara, the owner of the jewellery shop, sustained bullet injuries in the incident, sources said.

According to locals, the motorcycle-borne miscreants reached jewellery shop ‘New Payal Jewellers’ near Dhanupali Square in the western Odisha city in the afternoon. They immediately opened fire at the shop.

“The miscreants targeted the jewellery shop in the presence of its owner, employees and a few customers in the afternoon. They vanished from the scene after looting gold ornaments,” said a local.

The owner of the jewellery store was rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Burla in a critical condition.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.
