ASI to inspect temples on Sri Mandir premises in Odisha

Cuttack: Orissa High Court directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to inspect the structural condition of all the temples of ancillary deities situated on premises of Sri Mandir in Puri.

Hearing a PIL on repair work of Sri Mandir, a bench of Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Dr Justice BR Sarangi on Tuesday asked the ASI to submit the report on condition of all the temples and Mukti Mandap situated within the courtyard of the centuries old Jagannath temple.

The court expressed its satisfaction over the smooth conduct of rituals of Lord Jagannath.

Meanwhile, the repair work of Jay-Vijay Dwar of Sri Mandir will begin from May 1.

The court also directed the ASI to complete the repair work of the Jay-Vijay Dwar by May 31.

Sources said that the ASI had sought one month time for completion of the work.

The core committee meeting will be held on April 26 before repair work begins on May 1.

The high court bench ordered the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and state government to provide all sort of assistances to the ASI for repair work of Jay-Vijay Dwar.

The ASI will submit the status report of repair work and structural condition of all the temples of ancillary deities on the campus of Jagannath temple to the court during next hearing on May 15.

Notably, the Jagamohan was opened to the public on April 16 following directive by the High Court.

Meanwhile, the state government decided to deploy 586 doctors and para medical staff during Ratha Jatra this year.

The move came at a high level meeting chaired by Health & Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena held at State Secretariat in Bhubaneswar yesterday.

As per the decision, the health department will open casualty centres at 32 locations in Puri town and 30 ambulances will be provided by the government. A 24-hour OPD will be functional at Puri District Headquarters Hospital during Ratha Jatra.

Besides, the OPD and Casualty centres will be opened at all the health centres located on 203 National Highway between Bhubaneswar and Puri.
