Bhubaneswar: Here's good news for denizens and train commuters, as the Railway Station in Smart City Bhubaneswar will be upgraded to a world class multimodal hub very soon.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard is scheduled to be signed today between Odisha government and Indian Railways for major makeover of Bhubaneswar Railway Station.

Divisional Railway Manager of Khurda Road Railway Division Sashikant Singh will sign the MoU with Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Vice Chairman in New Delhi in presence of Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Minister of Steel Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Naveen Patnaik, who will be on video conference link from Bhubaneswar.

"Area adjoining Bhubaneswar Railway station is proposed for development as Railway Station Multimodal Hub (RSMH) Project under Smart City Mission of Govt. of India. This project is being taken up by Govt. of Odisha through the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA)," said an official release.

The multimodal hub will have new terminal building for Railway Station, city bus Terminal, public car park and other allied public utilities, a mixed use development over the land belonging to BDA and General Administration (GA) Department, Government of Odisha and a concourse connecting both sides of the station, across all platforms.

The new station building and two new railway lines with platforms will be developed in an integrated manner over the land belonging to Indian Railways and Odisha government. The proposed building will have five floors of which ground and two floors will be earmarked at 1.74 lakh sqft for the use by Railways.

The project will be carried out at total cost of Rs 130 crore, of which Indian Railways will bear Rs 70 crore  and Odisha government will spend Rs 60 crore.
