Bhubaneswar: BJD leader and former Kendrapara MLA Sipra Mallick today joined the Congress ahead of the twin elections in Odisha.

She joined the party at Congress Bhawan here in the presence of senior leader Prasad Harichandan. Worth mentioning, her father Prahlad Mallick was a Congress leader and former minister.

In her reaction, she said, "I am happy to return to the place where my father was. I am fully committed to strengthening the Congress party."

On being asked whether the party will give her a ticket for the upcoming elections or not, she replied, "I have no information about the party's plans for me. Although I have a keen interest in contesting from the Kendrapara constituency, the decision ultimately lies with the party leadership. I will abide by their decision."

She had successfully contested the 2009 Assembly polls from Kendrapara constituency as a BJD candidate by defeating Congress' Ganeswar Behera.
