Puri: Couple of days after the alleged assault of a devotee by servitors of Sri Jagannath Temple in Odisha's Puri, the temple administration has decided to install CCTV cameras at Bhitara Katha, the final entry point for devotees.

Informing about this, Pradeep Das, Niti Administrator, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), said that the cameras will be installed in order to monitor movement and activities of servitors and devotees inside the temple.

The cameras will be on during darshan of the deities and off during rituals, he added.

On the other hand, the SJTA has suspended two sevayats Somnath Mekap and Madan Khuntia for an indefinite period in connection with the attack on the devotee. A probe has been ordered into the incident.

Notably, a devotee from Maharashtra was allegedly assaulted by some servitors inside the temple and his gold pendent was snatched over payment of dakshina on May 20.
