Brahmapur: On charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 from a beneficiary of the Mukhya Mantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY), Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday apprehended Brahmapur Chief District Agriculture Officer (CDAO) Byomkesh Mishra.

According to Vigilance sources, Mishra allegedly demanded the bribe to process the beneficiary’s file under the integrated farming systems component of the MKUY and facilitate the release of the subsidy amount.

Under the MKUY guidelines, eligible beneficiaries are entitled to a subsidy of 50 per cent of the investment made in farming and related infrastructure.

The beneficiary had allegedly been requesting Mishra for the past two months to process his file. However, despite repeated requests, the CDAO allegedly did not process the file and demanded ₹15,000 as a bribe. He also allegedly sought a fixed percentage of the subsidy amount at the time of its release.

Aggrieved by the alleged demand and harassment, the beneficiary approached the Odisha Vigilance authorities and lodged a complaint.

Following the complaint, Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught Mishra while allegedly accepting the ₹15,000 bribe from the complainant. The entire tainted amount was recovered from his possession and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at three locations linked to Mishra as part of a disproportionate assets investigation.

In connection with the case, Brahmapur Vigilance Police Station Case No. 08 dated August 12, 2026, has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
