Lephripada (Sundargarh): In a shocking incident, an elderly couple was allegedly beaten to death by their son in Sundargarh district.

The incident took place in Dalkijharan village under Lephripara police limits. The deceased have been identified as Manual Toppo (70) and wife Veronica Toppo (65).

According to reports, the accused, identified as their son Patras Toppo, attacked the couple with an iron pipe following a heated argument reportedly linked to a dispute with his elder brother. The assault left both victims critically injured.

Family members rushed the injured couple to the district headquarters hospital in an ambulance, where they were admitted for treatment. However, both succumbed to their injuries today evening.

On receiving information, Lephripara police reached the spot and initiated an investigation.

The accused has been absconding following the incident. Police have launched a manhunt and are conducting raids at multiple locations to apprehend him.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
