Rourkela: Unearthing a racket involved in selling counterfeit watches in the name of popular brands, Plantsite Police in Rourkela have arrested four persons.
According to police, counterfeit watches bearing the names of brands such as Titan, Fastrack and Sonata were allegedly being sold to customers.
The accused have been identified as M.D. Sohel, owner of New Collection shop in the Plantsite area; Imran Ahmed, owner of Utkal Time House; M.D. Umair Alam, owner of Metro Times; and M.D. Asim, owner of Z.K. Sales.
During raids, police seized hundreds of counterfeit watches and various watch-related accessories from the accused.
The seized items include fake Fastrack tags, leather-belt watches, black-chain watches, silver-chain watches and golden-chain watches.
Police also seized counterfeit Titan and Sonata watches, along with chains, leather straps, watch dials, tags and empty boxes bearing the brands’ names.
According to police officials, 292 fake Fastrack tags, 115 fake Sonata tags and 84 fake Fastrack leather watches, besides a large quantity of other counterfeit watches and accessories, were seized.
Police are conducting further investigation to ascertain whether more people were involved in the alleged counterfeit watch racket.
