Cuttack: Cracking a robbery case involving a brutal attack on a jewellery trader near the Taladanda canal under Madhupatna police limits, the Commissionerate Police has arrested six persons and forwarded them to court.

Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari said the arrested include the mastermind, while two more suspects linked to the crime are still absconding.

The accused allegedly looted ₹36 lakh in cash from the trader. So far, police have recovered only ₹1 lakh, and the remaining amount is yet to be traced.

The arrested persons are from Kendrapara and Nischintakoili areas and have prior criminal records, including involvement in firing incidents and cases registered at Malgodown police station.

During the investigation, police found one of the accused, identified as Anand, had previously worked with the jewellery trader. Using his knowledge of the trader’s cash movements, Anand, along with an associate, planned the robbery.

Khilari said Anand was aware of the trader’s routine transactions and tipped off his accomplices about the movement of ₹36 lakh on the day of the incident.

The case was cracked using CCTV footage and call detail records (CDR), which helped police track down the accused.
Police have seized six mobile phones, ₹1.05 lakh in cash, and a car used by the accused to flee after the crime.

Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining absconding accused and recover the rest of the stolen money. Officials said the arrested persons are likely to be taken on remand for further interrogation.
