Bhograi: A shocking case of matricide has been reported from Parulia village under Kamarda police limits in Bhograi block of Balasore district, where a son allegedly forced poison into his elderly mother’s mouth, leading to her death.
Family dispute turns fatal
According to reports, the deceased, 76-year-old Padmabati Dalai, had frequent disputes with her son Laxmikant Dalai (35). On the night before the incident, the accused allegedly assaulted his mother and forced her out of the house. She returned the next morning, following which the situation escalated.
Alleged poisoning after domestic tension
Police sources said Laxmikant later returned home after dropping his wife at her parental house. Soon after, he allegedly administered poison to his mother forcibly. Padmabati died shortly after consuming the substance.
Villagers react, accused thrashed
The incident triggered outrage among locals. When neighbours rushed to the spot and attempted to intervene, the accused reportedly made offensive remarks, further angering the crowd. Villagers tied him to a tree and beat him before informing the police.
Police rescue accused, probe underway
Personnel from Kamarda police station reached the scene, rescued the accused and took him into custody. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway based on a complaint filed by a relative of the deceased.
Case registered, investigation continues
IIC Arpita Priyadarshini Das confirmed that the accused has been detained and further inquiry is in progress to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
