Sundargarh: Police in Sundargarh district have detained five persons in connection with an alleged sexual assault of two minor girls after they were reportedly offered a lift.

The incident was reported from the Rata Khandi Maidan area under the Birmitrapur police station limits of the district.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred around two days ago when some youths allegedly took the two girls to a nearby forest on the pretext of giving them a lift. The girls were allegedly sexually assaulted there, following which a complaint was lodged with the police.

Acting on the complaint, police detained five persons suspected of involvement in the incident and are questioning them.

The two minor girls have also undergone medical examination as part of the investigation.

Police have launched an investigation and are conducting further inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
