Sambalpur: Acting on search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur, Vigilance officials on Tuesday intercepted Bidyut Ranjan Bhol, Deputy Manager of the Sambalpur Division of the Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OPHWC).
The action followed credible inputs regarding the alleged collection of large amounts of bribe money.
During the interception, officials seized ₹5 lakh in cash from Bhol, suspected to be ill-gotten.
Subsequently, simultaneous searches were carried out at multiple locations linked to him in Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, and Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district. An additional ₹5 lakh was recovered from his residence in Bhubaneswar.
Further, two trunks containing around 70 bundles of ₹500 notes, reportedly concealed at his sister’s residence in Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, have been recovered so far.
Vigilance officials have deployed counting machines to determine the total amount seized. Searches are still underway.
