Death threat to Anubhav Mohanty: Accused nabbed from Gujarat

Bhubaneswar: A special squad of Commissionerate Police nabbed a person from Gujarat in connection with the death threat to Rajya Sabha member Anubhav Mohanty.

The accused was identified as Kalia Barik. He belongs to Khallikote area in Ganjam district. He is a mason and was staying in a rented house at Jhanjirmangala area in Cuttack, a source in Commissionerate police said.

He had threatened the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP on WhatsApp demanding Rs 10 lakh.

The actor-turned-politician Anubhav, who is also BJD's Lok Sabha candidate from Kendrapara in the 2019 elections, had allegedly received death threat on April 30.

According to reports, an unidentified miscreant had asked the parliamentarian for Rs. 10 lakh via a WhatsApp message and threatened to kill him, in case the latter fails to pay the amount.

The matter came to fore after Anubhav registered a complaint at Purighat police station.
