Elephant Gauri dies at Odisha's Nandankanan zoo

Bhubaneswar: The 7-year-old elephant Gauri, which was ailing from Herpes virus infection, died at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) on the outskirts of Odisha capital late last night.

Four elephants died in the past one month within NZP raising concern about the conditions of the elephants in the famous zoo.

With the death of Gauri, there are only four more female elephants left at the zoo.
The death of pachyderms raised serious concern among the zoological park authorities as it is the second death of a elephant in last 48 hours.

Earlier on September 15, Chandan, the only male elephant had died and on August 25, female elephant Julie had also died. Another elephant Kamala had died yesterday due to suspected Herpes virus infection.
