Bhubaneswar: The Union Government has appointed Shashi Shekhar Vempati as the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), popularly known as censor board in India.
He will hold office for a period of three years from the date of joining.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting today issued a notification in this regard. The post of CBFC chairperson was vacant following the resignation of Prasoon Joshi.
Joshi stepped down as the CBFC chairperson following his elevation as the chairman of Prasar Bharati.
“Vempati brings with him extensive experience in media, broadcasting, and public communication. His appointment is expected to further strengthen the functioning of the CBFC,” said the I&B Ministry.
