Jagatsinghpur: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two youths in Chandagarh area of Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district on Monday night. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital.

According to reports, the girl, along with a female friend, had left home around 8 PM to attend a relative’s birthday party in a nearby village. To reach early, they were taking a shortcut through farmlands when two youths intercepted them.

While one of the girls fled the spot, the youths reportedly dragged the victim to a secluded area and allegedly raped her.

She returned home in a bleeding state and informed her family about the incident, which took place merely 400 metres away from her house. Her family rushed her to the hospital in an ambulance.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by her father, Jagatsinghpur police have launched an investigation. A mobile phone was recovered from the crime scene, which police believe may belong to one of the accused.

While police have arrested one of the accused from Cuttack, raids were underway at various places to nab the other accused.

A 3-member team led by Jagatsinghpur SP has been formed for carrying out an investigation into the matter.
