Sonepur: A banner threatening to kill the principal of Siddhartha Degree College in Binka, Sonepur district, was found hanging at the college gate on Wednesday morning.

The banner warned the principal to stay away from the student union election, failing which he would be killed. College staff noticed the banner in the morning and informed the principal, Dhirendra Nayak.

Nayak said he has brought the matter to the attention of Binka police and senior officials in writing. He expressed suspicion that the incident might have been the handiwork of outsiders, stating that the atmosphere on the college campus remained peaceful.

Binka police reached the spot, seized the banner and deployed personnel at the college to maintain law and order.

Binka police station IIC said an investigation was underway to identify those responsible for putting up the banner.

The motive behind the threat and the identity of those involved are yet to be established.
