Bhubaneswar: A candidate for the post of student union president at BJB Autonomous College sustained injuries during a clash between two groups in Pipili area on the outskirts of the Odisha capital on Sunday.

The candidate, identified as Aryan, was initially taken to Pipili Hospital for treatment and later shifted to Capital Hospital for further medical care.

As per reports, the incident occurred during a gathering organised by Aryan and his supporters following an election campaign in Pipili. Aryan had reportedly been campaigning with his supporters before organising a feast at a nearby ground, where more than 15 students were present.

The situation reportedly turned tense when a BJB College student residing in Pipili arrived at the spot along with five to six others. They allegedly objected to the preparation of non-vegetarian food near the premises of the nearby Nilakantheswar Temple.

The objection led to an argument between the two groups, which subsequently escalated into a physical altercation. During the clash, Aryan sustained injuries to his head.

He was immediately rushed to Pipili Hospital, where he received initial treatment. Considering the nature of his injury, he was subsequently referred to Capital Hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the Pipili police have registered a case in connection with the incident and formed two teams to identify and apprehend those involved in the clash. An investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances that led to the violence.
