Bhubaneswar: Special arrangements have been made by the police to manage traffic and prevent road accidents during the Durga Puja festivities in Bhubaneswar. A total of 73 officers and 15 platoons of security personnel will be deployed for traffic management in the city from today until October 22, said Traffic ACP Umakanta Pradhan.

The police would focus on ensuring smooth traffic movement, controlling crowds and preventing accidents during the festive period. With repeated road accidents in the capital city raising concerns, the traffic police have stepped up public awareness campaigns and enforcement measures to improve road safety.

The police will keep a close watch on drunk driving, overspeeding and reckless driving. Special checks will be conducted to identify traffic violations, and strict action will be taken against those found violating traffic rules, the official said.

Police have also appealed to motorists to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and refrain from speeding. Commuters have been urged to follow traffic regulations and drive responsibly to ensure their own safety and that of others, he said.

With large crowds expected during the festivities, the deployment aims to minimise traffic congestion, facilitate the movement of vehicles and ensure safer travel across Bhubaneswar.
