Soro: A 12-year-old Class VI student died after drowning in a pond while she had gone to take a bath before attending school in Soro area of Baleshwar district on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjita Das of Bagada village under Manatri panchayat in Soro police station limits. She was a Class VI student at Manatri English Medium School.

According to reports, Sanjita returned home after attending tuition in the morning and went to a pond near her house to take a bath before leaving for school. However, she did not return home for a long time, prompting her family members to alert the Soro Fire Services.

Fire personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation. They eventually rescued Sanjita from the pond and rushed her to Soro Community Health Centre.

However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Following the incident, Soro police reached the hospital, took possession of the body and registered a case. An investigation into the circumstances leading to the drowning is underway.
