Koraput: A fire broke out at the Sri Bikram Government School of Art and Crafts in Odisha's Jeypore late on Thursday night, damaging several computers and other important materials.

According to preliminary information, the fire may have been caused by a short circuit after rainwater seeped into an electrical board. The night watchman on duty first noticed the fire and informed the authorities. School officials and staff soon reached the spot and alerted the Fire Services department.

Fire personnel rushed to the school and brought the blaze under control. However, several items kept inside the computer room were gutted in the fire.

The preliminary assessment has put the damage at more than Rs 5 lakh. Further assessment is expected to determine the exact extent of the loss.
