Malkangiri: The flood situation in Odisha’s Malkangiri district has turned critical following incessant rainfall, with several areas inundated and water flowing over multiple bridges.
Water is reportedly flowing over the bridges at Poteru, Kankarkunda, MV-90 and MV-96, disrupting movement in the affected areas. Rainwater has also entered houses in several low-lying areas.
In view of the deteriorating situation, the district administration has started evacuating people from vulnerable low-lying areas to safer locations. Arrangements for accommodation, food and drinking water have been made at relief shelters.
According to the administration, 58 villages across six blocks of the district have been affected, while 1,154 people have so far been evacuated from low-lying areas.
The administration is closely monitoring the situation and has intensified rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.
