Berhampur: The post-mortem report in the alleged suicide case of a 20-year-old student of a private engineering college at Golanthara in Odisha's Ganjam district has ruled out claims that she was two months pregnant and confirmed that her death was a case of suicide by hanging.

Dr. Sudeepa Das, Head of the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Department, MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, said the autopsy findings do not support allegations about the student being pregnant. She also clarified that the examination found no evidence of murder and established that the student died after hanging herself.

The BCA student was found hanging from the ceiling of her hostel room on Saturday. Following a complaint lodged by her maternal uncle, Golanthara Police registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with abetment of suicide.

Police have already arrested 24-year-old Biswajit Jena, the nephew of Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, in connection with the case. Biswajit, who was reportedly the deceased student's boyfriend and a fellow BCA student at the same institution, was taken into custody on Sunday.

Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M had earlier said that investigators collected digital and forensic evidence from the hostel room. Electronic devices belonging to both the deceased and the accused have been seized and sent for scientific examination.
