Koraput: Heavy rainfall triggered by the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has disrupted road communication in several parts of Koraput district, with water flowing over bridges and leaving vehicles stranded.

In Dasmantpur block, around three feet of water was reportedly flowing over the bridge near Damjodi village under Nandigaon panchayat. Vehicles have been stranded on both sides of the bridge, leaving passengers stuck for a long time.

Similarly, water has accumulated over the bridge near Haridaphut under Pindapadar panchayat following incessant rain. The rising water levels in several hill streams flowing near villages have raised concerns among residents.

The affected road connects Dasmantpur police station square with Adimunda square via Pindapadar and serves as an important communication route for several villages. People from around 20 villages under the Pindapadar and Duarashuni panchayats depend on the route for their daily needs and travel to Koraput market.

With water flowing over the road, movement of vehicles has been affected. Residents fear that further rainfall could worsen the situation and disrupt their daily lives and access to essential services.

The local administration is monitoring the situation and the water levels in rivers and streams. Residents have also been advised to remain alert and avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges as rainfall continues.
