Bhubaneswar: Three days of incessant rain have disrupted normal life across several parts of southern Odisha, triggering landslides, road blockades, waterlogging and damage to houses and infrastructure.

In Kandhamal district, a landslide at Kalinga Ghat has washed away nearly 200 metres of a guard wall. At Bada Ghati in Khallikote, boulders fell onto NH-16, disrupting vehicular movement.

Landslides have also blocked roads at several ghats in Mohana of Gajapati district and different parts of Malkangiri. In Rayagada, uprooted trees blocked roads at several locations, while landslides on railway tracks affected train services.

Road connectivity has also been disrupted in Koraput and Chitrakonda after trees fell on roads. Continuous rainfall has further damaged kutcha houses, while several homes in different areas have been inundated.

Several parts of Berhampur have also remained waterlogged. Teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Fire Services used boats to rescue people from inundated areas.

With rainfall continuing, authorities fear that the situation could deteriorate further. District administrations are closely monitoring river water levels and landslide-prone areas and have been asked to remain alert.
