Bhubaneswar: All schools and Anganwadi centres (AWCs) in Odisha’s Gajapati district will remain closed till September 24 in view of heavy rainfall alert issued by the IMD. The district administration issued an order in this regard on Monday.

As per the order, all primary, upper primary, high and higher secondary schools (both government and private), Kendriya Vidyalayas and Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs) in Gajapati district will remain closed from September 22 to 24.

However, the NRTS examination will be held on September 22 as per the schedule, said the order.

According to the district administration, all AWCs in Gajapati will remain closed for three days starting September 22. However, dry ration will be served to the beneficiaries at their doorstep, said the administration.

As per the IMD prediction, some places across the districts of Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Malkangir may witness extremely heavy rainfall on till September 24 due to the impact of a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal. The MeT Department has issued a Red warning in this regard.

Similarly, several other districts in coastal, south and western parts of the state will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall till September 25. The IMD has issued an Orange warning in this regard.
