Bhubaneswar: Attending a state-level function marking Ambedkar Jayanti in Bhubaneswar, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today announced establishment of an Ambedkar Bhavan in the city. Marking respect and honour to B. R. Ambedkar, the Ambedkar Bhavan will come up at Kharavela Nagar.
The Chief Minister also directed the General Administration department to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Bhavan.
Stressing the relevance of Ambedkar’s vision, Majhi said building a society based on equality and justice would be the greatest tribute to Ambedkar. Highlighting Ambedkar’s lifelong struggle and commitment to education, he said the architect of the Indian Constitution fought relentlessly to ensure equal rights and justice for all citizens.
The Chief Minister noted the development of Dalits, tribals, and backward classes has been made possible due to Ambedkar’s contributions. “A prosperous Odisha cannot be achieved without the upliftment of the most marginalised sections of society,” Majhi said.
He pointed out in the 2026–27 Budget, the state has earmarked over ₹6,649 crore for the development of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), with special focus on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
Majhi added the budget also prioritises education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities for SC and ST communities.
Emphasising food security as a pillar of social justice, the Chief Minister said schemes like ‘Mukhyamantri Annapurna’ are benefiting millions of people across the state.
The event was attended by MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai, MLA Chhabi Malik, noted academic Prof. Purna Chandra Mallik, and senior officials of the state government.
