Bhubaneswar: The police have arrested two brothers for allegedly duping customers of more than Rs 1 crore by misusing their fingerprints and one-time passwords (OTPs) at a Jana Seva Kendra in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.

The accused have been identified as Sheikh Abu Sofian and Sheikh Abu Kalam Yusuf, both residents of Akhun Mohalla under Krishnanandapur police station limits.

According to police, the duo allegedly cheated customers under the pretext of providing various public services through their Jana Seva Kendra. They reportedly used customers' fingerprints and OTPs to carry out unauthorised transactions and siphon off money from their accounts.

The alleged fraud came to light after customers discovered the unauthorised transactions and lodged complaints at Krishnanandapur police station as well as the Jagatsinghpur Cyber Police Station.

Following the complaints, a special team was formed on the directions of Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police Ankit Verma to look into the issue.

The team traced and arrested the two accused from Kataka, said Tirtol Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ajay Kumar Das.

The cops have also frozen all bank accounts belonging to the accused as part of the investigation.

“Further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify the transactions linked to the case,” added the SDPO.
