Jagatsinghpur: A 40-year-old man was found dead under suspicious circumstances on the roadside in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, with police suspecting that the murder is linked to an alleged extramarital affair.
The deceased, identified as Vijay Kumar Swain, was a daily wage labourer from Talakusuma village under the Baharana panchayat in the Balikuda police limits.
According to reports, Vijay’s body was found lying on the road between Janata Kothi and Kapila Tota late on Saturday night. Passersby noticed the body and alerted locals, leading to a crowd gathering at the spot. Police soon reached the scene and recovered the body.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Vijay had been suspecting his wife, Babita, of having an extramarital relationship. He had frequently confronted her over the issue.
On the night of the incident, Vijay was allegedly intercepted on his way home by his wife Babita and a neighbour, Alok Biswal. The duo reportedly assaulted him, after which Vijay collapsed at the spot. Believing him to be unconscious, the accused allegedly fled the scene and returned home.
On Sunday morning, Balikuda police, along with a scientific team, visited the spot and began an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Police have detained Babita, neighbour Alok Biswal, and a minor boy for questioning in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and confirm the motive behind the suspected murder.
