Deogarh: A man was allegedly killed after being run over by a truck following a dispute linked to an altercation in Odisha’s Deogarh district. Police have registered a murder case and started an investigation into the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Kartik Oram of Mahendrapur village under Reamal police limits. According to reports, Kartik had gone to Tileibani market under the Deogarh police limits along with his wife, Geeta Minz, on Wednesday.

During their visit to the market, Kartik reportedly got into an argument with truck driver Sushil Kishan of Asanalata village over some issue. After finishing their work, the couple was returning to their village on a scooter when the vehicle suffered a tyre puncture near Chatibarghat village on National Highway-49. They then stopped by the roadside.

Police said the accused driver allegedly followed the couple to the spot and again engaged in a heated exchange with Kartik. The two reportedly threatened each other during the argument.

According to the complaint, Geeta tried to calm her husband and moved towards the scooter. At that moment, the accused allegedly drove the truck towards Kartik and ran him over before fleeing from the scene.

Kartik, who sustained critical injuries, was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in an 108 ambulance. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

After receiving information, Deogarh police intercepted the fleeing truck and arrested the accused driver.
