Bhubaneswar: The Monsoon Session of the Odisha Assembly began on a stormy note on Tuesday as Opposition members created uproar over errors in school textbooks and demanded withdrawal of the MMDR Amendment Act.

Soon after the Question Hour began, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) legislators raised the textbook errors issue and staged a protest inside the House. Congress members also joined, raising their demand for withdrawal of the MMDR Amendment Act.

Carrying placards, Opposition MLAs reached the well of the House and raised slogans. Amid ruckus, the Speaker adjourned the House till 1.10 pm.

When the House reassembled, Opposition members again raised slogans and continued their protest. The Speaker subsequently adjourned the proceedings till 4 pm.

After the adjournment, BJD legislators marched towards Lower PMG and staged a protest over the errors in school textbooks. They raised slogans against the state government and demanded action over the issue.

"For the past six months, school students have been studying with textbooks containing errors. The School and Mass Education Minister should resign," said BJD MLA Pramila Mallik outside the House.

"The protest over the textbook issue will continue till the resignation of the School and Mass Education Minister," said Tusharkanti Behera.
