Jharsuguda: In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly killed her two children before attempting to end her life in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district late on Saturday night.

The incident took place in Tangarapali village under the Airport police limits. The accused has been identified as Ranjita Oram. The deceased children are her daughter Jijnasa Oram and son Bibhanshu Oram.

According to initial reports, the entire family was asleep when the incident occurred. Ranjita woke up her husband and asked him to step outside. When he went out, she locked the door from inside.

She then attacked her two children with a sharp weapon, killing them on the spot. After the attack, she allegedly attempted suicide by slitting her own throat.

On hearing commotion, the husband, with the help of neighbours, broke open a window and rescued her. She was later handed over to the police.

Ranjita was initially admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jharsuguda in critical condition. She was later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, for better treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained.
