Bhubaneswar: Three persons, including a man and his son, were killed in a tragic road accident in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Thursday.

The mishap took place near a petrol pump in Subdega area under Talsara police limits in the evening.

The accident occurred at around 8 pm when a speeding SUV (Bolero) coming from the opposite side hit a motorcycle near the petrol pump on the Sabdega-Balishankara main road. The impact caused the SUV to drag the motorcycle for some distance before veering off the road and falling into a nearby drain.

The three persons travelling on the motorcycle sustained critical injuries in the collision. The locals rescued the injured trio and rushed them to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). However, all three succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment later that night.

The deceased have been identified as Lingeswar Larang (60) of Kukuridihi village under Kinjerkel police limits, his son Sameer Larang (28) and a relative from Bandhabahal village.

According to reports, the three had stopped at the petrol pump to refuel their motorcycle and were returning to the main road when the SUV allegedly crashed into them.

The police have registered a case and seized the vehicles involved in the accident. An investigation is underway. Following post-mortem examinations, the bodies were handed over to the respective family members, reports said.
