Bhubaneswar: An undertrial prisoner (UTP) died under suspicious circumstances in Nilagiri Sub-Jail in Odisha’s Balasore district today.

The deceased has been identified as Srikant Nayak of Oupada area in Balasore.

Nayak had been arrested and sent to jail in connection with a murder case, reports said.

The prisoner reportedly developed some health complications after the lunch today afternoon.

The jail authorities immediately rushed the prisoner to a nearby hospital in a critical condition. However, he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors at the health facility.

On being informed, the police reached the hospital and sent the body for postmortem before launching a probe into the incident.
