Bhubaneswar: At least two people were killed and seven others critically injured after a speeding Scorpio SUV allegedly rammed into 10 vehicles on a busy road in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening.

According to eyewitnesses, the black Scorpio, bearing registration number OD07BG1777, first hit a two-wheeler near Nuagaon Chhak. Locals chased the vehicle following the incident, but the SUV continued its rampage, hitting nine more vehicles.

The vehicle finally came to a halt after crashing into a road divider in front of the SUM Hospital main road.

Angry locals reportedly overpowered the driver and assaulted him before handing him over to the police.

An eyewitness claimed that four people, including the driver, were travelling in the Scorpio and that the occupants appeared to be intoxicated. While the driver was caught, the other three occupants allegedly fled the scene.

Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saravana Vivek M reached the spot and said an investigation had been launched into the incident. Further details will emerge after the probe, he added.
