Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly consumed poison inside a police station in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district over the fear of getting arrested.

As per reports, the accused, identified as Anadi Rout of Kanaguli village in Erasama block, had been allegedly harassing his wife and children.

On the day of the incident, his wife and her family members had gone to lodge a complaint against him at the Erasama Police Station. After learning about this, Anadi rushed to the police station, became aggressive upon arrival and assaulted his wife and father-in-law.

Sensing imminent arrest, Anadi reportedly took out a bottle of poison he had carried in his pocket and consumed it on the spot.

Police personnel immediately rescued him and rushed him to Erasama Community Health Centre. As his condition deteriorated, he was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital for better treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining all aspects, including the allegations of domestic violence and the attempted suicide inside the police station premises.
