Bhubaneswar: Legendary Odia singer Prafulla Kar received the prestigious Sikander Alam Memorial award in the second year of its institution, here today.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gave Kar the award, consisting of a citation and a shawl. at an event held in the Secretariat.

Minister of Odia Language Literature and Culture Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, Principal Secretary of Odia Language Literature and Culture Department Manoranjan Panigrahy (IRS) and Editor of Utkala Prasanga Lenin Mohanty, along with late iconic singer Sikander Alam's wife and daughter, Nazia Alam were also present on the occasion.

Notably, the award has been constituted by Sikander Alam Foundation to reward eminent artists to mark the late singer’s birthday.

The first Sikander Alam Memorial award was bestowed upon eminent Odia singer Pranab Kishore Patnaik, last year.
