This tiny girl from Odisha’s coastal town of Kendrapara has left many awe-struck for her ability to recite Bhagwad Gita uninterruptedly at a go, despite hailing from Muslim community.

The six-year girl Firdaus topped the Gita recitation competition held at the Sovaniya Sikhyashram –a residential school – here yesterday.

No body would have imagined her to come out with flying colours as she participated in the sub-junior category in the age group of 6-14 years.

A confident Firdaus recited the Hindu religious scripture flawlessly scoring 90 of 100 marks, thus topping in the completion.

“I believe in vasudhaiva kutumbakam which means all humans are members of an extended global family. My teachers too have taught me moral education in school,” Firdaus exuded.

The child prodigy’s parents live in Damarpur village under Pattamundai block in the district.

“We live in a harmonious environment in our village which has left a mark on our children. Besides, the teachers too have a greater role in imbibing values,” Arifa Biwi, Firdaus’ mother expressed.

Notably, a 19-year-old Muslim girl from Ganipur area under Remuna block in Balasore district had also achieved similar feat after winning Gita recitation contest last year.

Rehana Khatun topped the contest among over 2500 competitors, an event organised by ISKCON.
