Bhubaneswar: A newly-wed woman was allegedly set ablaze by her in-laws over dowry issues in Odisha’s Koraput district today.

Victim Shibani Singh (23) succumbed to her burn injuries later.

Shibani, a resident of MV-10 village in Malkangiri district, had tied the knot with one Pravash Singh of Padua village of Lamtaput area of Koraput district two months ago.

Shibani’s in-laws were allegedly torturing her physically and mentally over dowry since her wedding.

They allegedly set Shibani ablaze by pouring diesel on her today. Shibani was rushed to a hospital at Lamtaput with 93 per cent burn injuries. She died while being treated at the hospital.

Her family members lodged an FIR in this regard with Padua police station. In their FIR, Shibani’s family levelled dowry torture allegations against her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law, police said.
