Jharsuguda: On Menstrual Hygiene Day, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting menstrual health and inclusive work policies by promoting access to safe menstrual products, sanitation facilities and menstrual health awareness.

Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda, has ensured inclusive workplace practices across all levels of its operations, with women actively contributing in plant leadership and core manufacturing roles, including smelting, power generation and logistics.

The company has embedded menstrual health support across these work environments with over 100 sanitary napkin vending machines deployed at key locations, ensuring ready access to menstrual products and enabling women professionals to perform their roles with comfort and confidence.

These efforts are reinforced by a robust framework of supportive people policies. The company’s unique ‘No Questions Asked’ work-from-home policy enables women professionals to take one self-care day per month, with no explanations required. The company also provides six months of paid maternity leave along with childcare support provisions within its employee township, as well as sabbatical leaves of up to six months for personal or family needs. These are complemented by regular wellness and counselling programmes, conducted online and in-person.

Speaking on the occasion, C Chandru, CEO - Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda, said, “We believe in empathy, dignity and equal opportunity. Our focus is on creating supportive workplaces for women.”

Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda has been consistently witnessing the growing participation of women in core manufacturing roles. The company is the first in Odisha’s industrial sector to deploy women in the night shift under its Shree Shakti initiative and is also the first in the state to put together an all-women power unit team. It is also the first in India to deploy an all-women potline, and the first within the Vedanta Group to deploy an all-women locomotive team. These milestones reinforce the company’s commitment to building a more equitable and diverse workplace.
