Bhubaneswar, March 13: Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) convened its Corporate Level Tripartite Safety Committee Meeting in Bhubaneswar to review safety and health performance across its mining operations and discuss measures to further strengthen mine safety, occupational health and worker welfare.
The meeting brought together senior officials, safety regulators and workers’ representatives to assess existing practices and reinforce the corporation’s commitment to safe and responsible mining.
Meeting chaired by DGMS official
The meeting was chaired by Shyam Sundar Prasad, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety, South Eastern Zone, Ranchi. It was attended by Sudhansu Mohan Samal, Managing Director of OMC.
Discussions focused on key issues including health facilities for workers, welfare amenities at mining sites, implementation of recommendations from the 12th National Conference on Safety in Mines, and compliance with statutory provisions related to electrical, mechanical and mining safety.
DGMS appreciates OMC’s safety initiatives
Officials from the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) appreciated OMC’s initiatives in digitising safety management systems.
They also commended the corporation for maintaining zero fatal accidents across its mines for the past three consecutive years, recognising the efforts of the management in advancing the goal of “Zero Harm” in mining operations.

The meeting was attended by several DGMS officials including N. Balasubrahmanyam, Director of Mines Safety (Region-2), A.K. Mishra, Director of Mines Safety (Region-1), and Deputy Directors of Mines Safety T. Hari Prasad and U. Siva Shankar, along with Directors of Mines Safety (Mechanical and Electrical) from the Ranchi zone.
From OMC, senior officials present included Sudhanshu Sekhar Khora, Executive Director (F&E); Alok Pal, Director (HR); Talat Afreen, Executive Director (P&A) and Head CSR; Rajesh Mishra, Chief General Manager (Production); Malay Kar, General Manager (HR); and Anurag Ojha, Assistant General Manager (Mines Safety), along with other senior officials.
Workmen representatives also attend
Around 18 workmen representatives from different mining regions participated in the meeting and shared their inputs on workplace safety and welfare issues.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to strengthen safety systems and promote responsible and safe mining practices across OMC’s operations.
