Balasore, April 17, 2026: TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) has stepped up efforts to strengthen its power distribution infrastructure across northern Odisha to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the peak summer season.

The utility is enhancing its operational framework across Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar districts, aiming to maintain grid stability amid rising temperatures and seasonal Kalbaisakhi (nor’wester) storms. The company is preparing to handle a projected peak demand of 1,805 MW.

As part of its infrastructure modernisation drive, TPNODL has deployed advanced diagnostic technologies such as infrared thermography, drone-based inspections, ultrasound scanning and health indexing systems to detect and address potential network faults proactively.

The ongoing maintenance programme covers 913 11-kV feeders and 113 33-kV feeders. It also includes the overhaul of 567 power transformers and maintenance of more than 13,000 distribution transformers. Additionally, conductor upgrades have been carried out across 14.9 circuit km of 33-kV lines and 78.7 circuit km of 11-kV lines to improve overall network performance.

To ensure swift response and restoration during outages, the company has mobilised a workforce of over 7,000 personnel, including employees and business associates, for round-the-clock monitoring. Equipment reserves have also been strategically positioned at divisional levels.

TPNODL said it is prioritising uninterrupted power supply to critical infrastructure such as district headquarters hospitals and community health centres, in coordination with the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority.

Commenting on the initiative, Gajanan Kale, Chief – Odisha Distribution Business and CEO of TPNODL, said the company’s focus is on sustained reliability rather than seasonal response. He noted that the integration of advanced technologies and rigorous maintenance protocols has strengthened the network to handle growing demand while ensuring safety and efficiency.

The company has also urged consumers to use electricity responsibly by aligning declared loads with actual consumption to avoid stress on the grid. It reiterated a zero-tolerance stance against power theft, warning that illegal usage contributes to voltage fluctuations and unscheduled outages.

Consumers have been encouraged to report faults or emergencies through TPNODL’s 24/7 toll-free helpline.

With its multi-layered strategy, TPNODL aims to transition toward a more resilient and future-ready power distribution system, ensuring reliable service delivery across northern Odisha during the demanding summer months.
