Odisha govt to restore Kanjia Lake on capital city outskirts

The Kanjia Lake adjacent to Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of Odisha capital will be restored.

The Odisha government has given its approval for restoration of this water body, informed Sisir Kumar Acharya, Director Nandankanan Zoological Park while speaking at a special function at the zoo premises on the occasion of World Wetlands Day.

While Rs 44 lakh has been sanctioned for the purpose, restoration work will be undertaken by Chilika Development Authority (CDA).

“Restoration work will be done by Chilika Development Authority. The government has sanctioned Rs 44 lakh for the purpose,” said Acharya.

“Presently, a major part of Kanjia Lake is filled with silt and covered with weeds,” he added.

A rally by school children was organized at Nandankanan to mark World Wetlands Day.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik used his twitter handle to urge people to protect and conserve wetlands of the state to make it disaster resilient.
