Bhubaneswar: Sofia Firdous of Congress party has won from Barabati-Cuttack Assembly seat in Odisha.

Sofia, the daughter of MLA Mohammed Moquim, defeated her nearest rival Purnachandra Mohapatra of BJP by 7,974 votes.

Sofia was polled 53,197 votes while Mohapatra, a renowned doctor, got 45,223 votes.

Prakash Behera of BJD got the third position by securing 39,934 votes.

Sofia (32), a civil engineer by training, is the director of a real estate firm. She was elected as the president of CREDAI, Bhubaneswar chapter, last year.

All 147 Assembly seats in Odisha went for polls in four phases on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1.
