Odisha: Utkal University convocation tomorrow; over 150 to get PhD degree

Bhubaneswar: Utkal University in Odisha capital here is all set to hold its 53rd convocation on February 29 (Thursday).

President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to address the ceremony. Odisha Governor Raghubar Das will preside over the convocation ceremony while Higher Education Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak would be the guest of honour, varsity sources said.

Members of varsity syndicate and academic council, teaching staff and students will attend the ceremony.

“President Droupadi Murmu will arrive at the venue at 5.30 pm on February 29 and address the ceremony at 6.15 pm. The President will leave the varsity campus at 6.35 pm,” said Vice-Chancellor Sabita Acharya.

Three eminent persons would be conferred with honorary doctorate at the 53rd convocation ceremony. Besides, PhD/ D.Litt degrees would be conferred on 166 scholars on the occasion, she added.

The varsity authorities, meanwhile, have made elaborate arrangement for smooth organization of the convocation ceremony. The offices of the varsity have been decorated with colourful lights.

“A special corridor has been laid to welcome the President. A large LED panel would be installed at the varsity auditorium for live streaming of the event. Around 1,000 people are scheduled to attend the ceremony,” said a source in the varsity.
