Over 1 lakh evacuated before FANI in Kendrapara; 3 dead: Chief Secy

Kendrapara: Three persons were killed and as many as 1.17 lakh people evacuated in Kendrapara district before the severe cyclonic storm FANI hit Odisha coast on May 3.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi informed this after reviewing situation in the district post the cyclone today.

Praising efforts of the district administration for the preventive measures, Padhi said, “We have been able to minimize the loss of lives due to the cyclone as only three persons were reportedly killed in Kendrapara district.”

The Chief Secretary also informed that 100 per cent electricity will be restored in the district in next two days. “Around 80 per cent of power supply has been restored in the district so far. Total power will be restored in next two to three days,” he added.

On water supply restoration, Padhi said water supply has already been completely restored in urban areas while the same will be restored in villages very soon. Water supply has been restored in 240 out of 277 piped water supply points in rural areas, he added.

On relief package, Padhi said all families in the district covered under NFSA and SFSA will get a month’s quota of rice and Rs 500 cash within two three days.

The Chief Secretary also reviewed the post cyclone situation in Jagatsinghpur district.
