Patient jumps off hospital building after slitting vein in Odisha; dies

Dhenkanal: Mystery shrouded death of a patient, who allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the sixth floor of the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here after cutting his wrist vein this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Bijay Behera (21) alias Tuna of Mahulakhola village under Gondia police limits in the district.

Sources said Tuna was admitted to the primary health centre (PHC) at Deogaon after falling sick due to sunstroke yesterday and later shifted to the DHH. At around 8.30 am, he went to the sixth floor of the hospital on the pretext of using the washroom. Later, he cut his his wrist's veins and jumped off the building.

Though the exact reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained, the Dhenkanal Town police have begun an investigation into the incident.
