Cuttack: In an unfortunate incident, a Plus-III girl student of Ravenshaw University here was killed after being run over by a speeding truck in front of the varsity today.

The deceased has been identified as Arnapurna Choudhary, a resident of Choudwar area here. Her parents are teachers by profession.

As per reports, the girl, a student of Economics Department, was riding her scooter in front of the campus at around 1 PM. However, she somehow lost control over the two-wheeler and fell down. In no time, a speeding truck ran over her killing her on the spot. Soon after, the truck driver fled the scene and drove towards OMP.

On receiving information, a police team reached the spot and began an inquiry. Later, the truck, who is said to be from West Bengal, was seized near Chauliaganj here.

Meanwhile, irate locals questioned as to how the truck was commuting on the road while restrictions have earlier been imposed on plying of heavy vehicles inside cities.
