Rourkela: Two drug traffickers arrested in biggest seizure of opium in Odisha

Rourkela: A team of Special Task Force (STF), Bhubaneswar conducted biggest seizure of opium in Rourkela and arrested two inter-state drug traffickers in this connection.

On the basis of intelligence input, the STF team, with the help of Rourkela police, carried out raid at a location near Panposh here on Thursday and apprehended the duo.

The accused were identified as Bitu Singh Munda (46) and Rohit Munda (49) of Khunti district in Jharkhand. The two are brothers in relation.

During search, opium weighing 10.508 kg and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from their possession. They could not produce any document for possession of such contraband, for which they were apprehended and forwarded to court.

During investigation/ interrogation, it was revealed that the two accused and their associates, who are yet to be arrested, used to deliver opium to the drug peddlers of Sundargarh, Rourkela and Jharkhand after procuring the same from Rajasthan.
